What turns people away from God

What unbelievers get wrong ....

What makes those that do not call themselves Christians turn away from the faith? I believe the main reason is they expect if you call yourself a "Christian" you are to be perfect in every way. If you are not, then calling your self "Christian" is hypocritical. Before I go further let me say there are Christians that act as if they are perfect and then prove themselves "ugly" by their actions. I am not talking about those people. They are part of why non believers feel the way they do. What I do wish all unbelievers could know is to be a Christian means to believe that Jesus is the messiah, sent by God, so that we may be forgiven of our sins and have the opportunity to spend an eternity with our creator. It means we believe that wholeheartedly and Love the word of God and believe every word of it to be true. We worship God and desire to serve him DESPITE our human short comings and faults. Our goal is to be as Christ like as possible but when you meet a Christian they may be newly saved or struggling through a hard time, or maybe just make a mistake. This should not turn you away from the faith and a loving God who desires a close personal relationship with you. If you could compare it to eating habits (Sort of odd I know). If you are someone like myself that likes to eat healthy, I've read tons of books on nutrition. I KNOW what is good for me and what is not, I believe in proper nutrition, I try to follow it, yet there are times i get a fast food hamburger, knowing It is not the right choice. Just because one day, one time I choose to eat something unhealthy doesn't mean I can no longer say I am all for nutritious healthful eating. I am not a hypocrite because I ate a hamburger. So If you see a Christian that you know loves God, goes to church, reads their Bible, Prays (maybe even for You) but maybe make a bad decision, slips a profanity, drinks a beer, Have some grace and know They STILL Love their God, and want you too to have a relationship with a creator that knows every hair on your head, every thought in your mind, and loves you more than you can imagine. Christians are striving everyday to be that light in a dark world. Please don't judge the creator of the Universe based on a mistake of one or the imperfection of a few. Don't stereotype a whole group of believers based on one bad experience or one misguided individual. One of my pastor's once said "keep you eyes on people you will always be disappointed, keep you eyes on the lord and you will always have hope". This is from someone who loves the Lord but isn't always 100% proud of how I display my Christianity. I am a work in progress.

Me too!!! I wish others wouldn't be so judgemental on Christians as they seem to sometimes place all of us in the same Christian pool.:)
